Tell the kids to get lost these
school holidays at the maze
Buderim Chronicle, 6 June 2005
The school holidays can seem like a very long time if you are the parent of a few energetic, bored children, but luckily the Sunshine Coast has a wide variety of fun things to do.
One of the more unique, local places to visit
is the Bellingham Maze, a large, living hedge
located in Tanawha.
From the magic waterfall entrance, a short walk through tropical rainforest leads visitors to the Tea House. There everyone is warmly welcomed before being promptly told to get lost - in the hedge maze, that is.
Sophy Wrangell, owner of the maze, said that everyone gets lost in the Bellingham Maze, although not everyone admits to it.
"A lot of people get worried that they will really get lost in the maze, but most people are in there for just 25 minutes. We sometimes get people who will spend an hour and a half in there and they never find the fountain in the middle," she said.
Once visitors have the small matter of finding the centre of the maze out of the way, there are plenty of other brain teasing puzzles in the tea house to keep the mind thinking.
"We try to keep things on a challenging theme, so we have lots of puzzles for people to solve on each table in the tea room. There's the Golf Box, Spider Nails, Horseshoe Puzzle and Soma Cubes which keep people amused for ages" Ms Wrangell said.
The puzzles at the Bellingham maze have just expanded and visitors who find themselves really intrigued can also buy their own puzzle to take home.
Visitors tired of being befuddled and lost can always indulge in a delicious Devonshire Tea or Lavazza Coffee.
So next time you feel like losing yourself for a while, head to the Bellingham Maze, on the Tanawha Tourist Drive at Tanawha, just a 5 minute drive down the hill from Buderim.
The maze is open 7 days from 9am to 5pm. For more details contact the Bellingham Maze.
